Twenty-one members of the Fayette County Running Club qualified for regional competition at last Saturday’s 2022 USA Track and Field Indiana Cross Country Championships. Conditions were difficult at the Shelbyville course where youth athletes ranging in age from 18 to under eight-years-old ran for an opportunity to compete in this Saturday’s Region Seven Championships in Oswego, Illinois.
“When we were preparing to go [to Shelbyville] they said, ‘a dusting of snow,” FCRC Head Coach Kelli House said. “It snowed from before the first race through the entire meet. Before the boys 9-10 it was snowing so hard you couldn’t see the lead cart. It was definitely an experience. The kids came into this race absolutely mentally prepared. This is the first year a lot of the kids had to qualify to get to the next race. The last 2 seasons have been open to anyone. I expected a lot more nerves, but they came in ready to go and got it done.”
