The Connersville Spartan football team fell to 4-3 on the season, and 1-1 in Eastern Indiana Athletic Conference divisional play with a 42-14 loss to the conference leading East Central Trojans on senior night last Friday at Spartan Field. It was another tough start for a Connersville side that had an uphill battle against the (at the time) fifth ranked class 4A Trojans.
The Connersville defense got an early stop on East Central’s opening possession. Connersville senior Gavin Jones stopped East Central junior running back Josh Ringer to force a turnover on downs in Connersville territory. A holding penalty on Connersville’s opening offensive possession negated a Braxton Myers first down reception and forced the Spartans into a third and long. The Trojans blocked the Connersville punt and returned it for a non-offensive touchdown to open the scoring and give East Central an early 7-0 lead. More penalties and special teams’ troubles plagued the Spartans on the ensuing possession, and Ringer scored on a short run to put East Central up 14-0 midway through the first quarter. Ringer would end the night with 116 yards on 11 carries and 4 touchdowns.
