Both the seventh and eighth grade Connersville Middle School Spartan boys basketball Red Teams are 1-1 after the first week of competition for the 2022-23 season. The eighth grade Red Team Spartans got into the win column with a 47-19 road win over the eighth grade Patriots of Union County on Thursday night.

The outcome of both games in Union County were never in doubt. The eighth grade Spartans jumped out to a 9-2 lead after the first quarter and extended it to 27-5 at halftime. Rylan Keen led the Spartans in scoring with 16 points. Braylen Buckles had nine, Connor Lakes with eight, Elijah French had six, Colton Wise had five, Grady Simpkins had four, and Joe Woodward rounded out the scoring for Connersville with two points. Everyone on the roster got some playing time and scored points in the early season win for the eighth graders. On top of outstanding rebounding, the Spartans limited turnovers.
