Lemuel Eugene May, 74, passed away on Saturday, July 11, 2020, in Lakeland, Fla. He was born on March 27, 1946, in Connersville. He was the son of Frank and Reva (Holland) May of Connersville.
Gene attended Fairview and Fayette Central schools. He worked several years at D&M and briefly at Stant and Roots Blower. He also did paint and drywall in the area. He loved to fish, hunt and almost any kind of sports, especially golf. He moved to Florida in the 70’s and continued in paint and drywall at construction sites, eventually becoming a well-known and successful paint and drywall contractor in Lakeland. After retiring, he spent time with friends and family, hunting deer and spending time at his camp in Alabama. Worked part time at Wedgewood Golf Course in Lakeland until recently.
He is survived by his wife, Debbie (Towler) May; daughters Melinda Poynter, Regina Gill of Connresville; a son, Tim (Renee) May of Lakeland, Fla.; one brother, Charles (Jerry Lou) May; two sisters, Leanna (Jim) Holbrook, Rebecca May, all of Connersville; six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Vivian May; two sisters, Linda (May) Willhelm and Cynthia (May) Stokes.
A memorial service was held July 17 in Lakeland, Fla., with Gentry-Morrison Funeral Homes.
A celebration of life will be held for family and friends at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, July 26, in Springersville at the Springersville Christian Church. The Family asks that if anyone wants to give a memorial gift, to give it in Gene’s memory to your local cancer society.
