50-year firefighters

Four firefighters representing the Bentonville Volunteer Fire Department were honored for 50 years of service on Thursday evening at the firehouse in Bentonville. They were: (front row, from left) Jim McElfresh, David Eakins, Denny Summan and Paul Ripberger. Honoring them were: (back row, from left) District 13 Chairman Jeff Biehl, IBFA President David Israel, Director of the Indiana Fire and Public Safety Wade Walling and Bentonville Fire Chief Chad Ripberger.

When Jim McElfresh, David Eakins, Denny Summan and Paul Ripberger first stopped into the Bentonville Volunteer Fire Department, Richard Nixon was President of the United States.

That was 50 years ago, and the four of them have showed enough grit and determination to last throughout these past five decades.
