'Messiah' performance coming in 2 weeks

The Fayette Community Foundation made a $1,500 grant to help support a Community Choir performance of Handel’s Messiah, organized by Fayette County Community Voices and Roger Tyler, CHS Choral director. The Connersville Community Choir will present the Christmas portion of Handel’s Messiah on at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 24, in the Robert E. Wise Center at Connersville High School.

The Community Choir will perform with the East Central Indiana Chamber Orchestra from Muncie. Handel’s Messiah is one of the best-known classical choral works.

The concert will include six choruses and solos from five choir members. Bob Swope and Mark Hallett will sing the bass recitatives and arias. Mezzo soprano Linda Ward will sing “Rejoice” and the soprano solo in “He Shall Feed His Flock.” Brandon Stanton, an alumnus of CHS Choir, will sing the tenor recitatives and arias. Sara Gross, a Fayette County music teacher, will sing the alto recitative, “Then Shall the Eyes of the Blind be Opened” and the alto solo in “He Shall Feed His Flock.” CHS choir member and sophomore, Hana Glover will sing the soprano recitatives.

The Whitewater Valley Arts Association will have a display of work from their permanent collection.

This event is Roger Tyler’s last Connersville Community Choir performance. He will retire at the end of this school year to move to Iowa to be closer to his children and grandchildren. 

Tickets for this event may be purchased for $5 at Brian’s Bistro and More and both branches of Union Savings and Loan bank. Tickets may also be purchased at the door on the day of the concert.

His last two choir concerts at Connersville High School will be the Christmas Show at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 8, and the Spring Concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 17, 2020. These concerts will be in the Robert E. Wise Center.
