Lois M. Offutt Miller

Lois M. Offutt Miller, age 89, died Thursday, November 7, 2019, at Reid Hospital in Richmond, Indiana.

The fourth of six children of William Adolphus “Dolph” and Lorraine Biere Offutt, Mrs. Miller was born May 23, 1930, in Connersville, Indiana.

A 1948 graduate of Connersville High School, she was employed in the payroll department of McQuay Norris. She later was a secretary at American Kitchens and for attorney Hugh Russell before working for the law firm of Smith, Shaw, and Wilhoite.

On New Year’s Eve of 1949, she married William H. Miller at the Central Christian Church.

A former member of Kappa Kappa Sigma Sorority, she was a proud 85-year member of Central Christian Church. She was Past Matron of Eastern Star, to which she belonged for over 30 years. An avid golfer, Mrs. Miller also loved dancing and frequently attended the Raleigh Community dances that were popular for so many years. She was a member of the Senior Citizens Center and participated in many activities offered there. She enjoyed traveling with her family, having visited almost all of the 50 states.

Mrs. Miller is survived by her daughter, Pamela Miller Mode (Rick Palyok) of Columbia, South Carolina, and by her grandson, 1st Lieut. Geoffrey Mode (Courtney Phipps) of Alexandria, Virginia.

Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 31 years, William H. Miller, who died March 24, 1981. She was also predeceased by her brothers, Sinclair Offutt and Ray Offutt, and by her sisters, Phyllis Offutt Glaser and Marge Offutt Siebert.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. at Urban Winkler Funeral Home on Saturday, November 9, with Pastor Greg Marvel officiating. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will follow in Dale Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Connersville Masonic Lodge.
