Milling, paving underway

A crew from Milestone Contractors worked Thursday morning on Highland Drive, milling the pavement to remove the top layer. Pictured, Virgil Foster and David Merchand use a blower and shovel to push broken asphalt out of a driveway and into the street, where a heavy milling machine swept it up and moved it into a dumptruck. The street should get a new asphalt surface within the next few days.

Within the next two weeks, 16 repaving projects should be completed in Connersville.

A crew from Milestone Contractors started work Friday, milling 30th Street west of Western Avenue and Highland Drive. Early next week, the crew expects to be putting down new pavement.

Milestone will be milling pavement -- removing the top layer of asphalt -- about two days before putting down new asphalt, according to Brad Colter, Connersville utilities superintendent.

The tentative milling schedule has Milestone working on Columbia and Lincoln streets Tuesday; Woodland and Whitewater, Wednesday; 15th and 16th on Thursday; 19th and Virginia, Friday; Virginia, Saturday, Oct. 12; Indiana, Monday, Oct. 14; Meyer Ave. on Tuesday, Oct. 15; Memorial on Wednesday, Oct. 16; Ariens and 10th, Thursday, Oct. 17; and 12th Street, Friday, Oct. 18.

Inclement weather could change the schedule.
