Reid Health personnel visited the Fayette Senior Center to talk with more than 50 seniors about Medicare on Wednesday. The annual Medicare Open Enrollment period is Oct. 15-Dec. 7.

Rebekah Wood, a registered nurse who is director of clinical documentation integrity, talked about the reasons seniors should have an annual Medicare wellness interview.

"All members of Medicare Part B are eligible for a free benefit from Medicare for an Annual Wellness Interview. During the interview the nurse will ask the patient their past medical, social, family history, home medication, allergies, complete a health risk assessment, discuss Advance Care Planning and provide a personalized prevention plan including due dates for preventative services that are free from Medicare e.g. colonoscopy screening."

Morgan Gunder of Reid Health Alliance talked about options available in Medicare and showed them how to enroll.

"I helped patients by understanding the basics of the federal Medicare program (Part A and B) and reviewed options, like Medicare Advantage (Part C), Medicare Supplements and prescription drug plans (Part D). We talked about Medicare timelines and requirements to qualify," Gunder said. She also talked about Read Health Alliance Medicare, a plan offered by Reid.

Reid Health Alliance Medicare Advantage covers most regular medical expenses.
