Spartans of the Week

Olivia Struewing is Connersville Middle School’s seventh grade Spartan of the Week for the week of Sept. 9. Olivia is the daughter of Stephen and Chelsea Struewing.

Clay Hurd, Race Car social studies teacher, nominated her for “consistently demonstrating the 3 R’s (respect, responsibility and ready to learn).” Hurd adds, “Olivia is kind to all of her teachers and her fellow classmates. She goes above and beyond in the classroom.” Sandy Peck, Race Car English teacher, praised, “She is always on time and has work completed. She always has a smile on her face and seems determined to learn.”

Olivia is a member of the Energizers dance team at CMS.

As a student last year at Fayette Central, she was on the honor roll and received the Principal’s Mental Attitude Award, Highest Overall GPA award, the President’s Academic Excellence award, the Midas Gold Paintbrush Award and the Citizenship award.

Outside of school, she participates in 4-H and takes classes at Sandee’s Danz Explosion. In her free time, she likes making crafts and spending time with her horse and other animals. Her favorite classes are social studies and s art.

After high school she wants to be a counselor.

When asked what she liked best about being a student at Connersville Middle School, Olivia said, “I like switching classes and being able to see friends from other schools that I never used to see at school.”

Kira Gamble is CMS’s eighth-grade Spartan of the Week. Kira is the daughter of Christina Gamble and Jimmy Gamble.

Jessica Hartle, Diamond mathematics teacher, nominated her for being respectful, responsible and ready to learn. Hartle states, “Kira comes to class every day ready to learn. She is always on task and participating. She is respectful to her teachers and other students in class.” Matt Hafertepen, Diamond social studies teacher, adds, “Kira is responsible and shows she is ready to learn by having her materials ready for my class.”

Kira is a member of the FCA club at CMS and last year was a member of the softball team.

Last year at CMS, Kira was an Honor Roll student and received the Principal’s award. In her free time, she likes to play softball. Her favorite classes are social studies and science.

Outside of school, she participates on a travel softball team and the Baptist Temple Church youth group. 

After high school, she is interested in attending college to become a chiropractor.

Kira’s advice to seventh grade students is to “work hard.”

When asked what she liked about CMS, Kira stated, “I like that you have the freedom of walking to all of your classes and talking to your friends.”
