Organization Reports

Josalyn Compton, right, presented longtime member Darlene Knight with a certificate designating her an emeritus member of Altrusa following the group’s Sept. 4 meeting.

Altrusa

Twelve members of Altrusa International of Connersville met Sept. 4 at First United Methodist Church. President Fran Holmes opened the meeting with the Club Collect and the Pledge of Allegiance.

Committee chairs for the Oct. 12 Chili Challenge reported to the club. Booth space for cookers and crafters is still available. Altrusa members will be contacting businesses and organizations in the coming weeks asking for sponsorships and for silent auction items. Raffle tickets for a money bouquet are available from any Altrusa member.

The next meeting will be a Chili Challenge committee meeting Sept. 18 at 5:30 at the Pizza Place.

Two members shared brags. Carolyn Doub won the 50/50 drawing.

The meeting closed with the Altrusa Benediction. Following the meeting, several members met Darlene Knight at the Ole Rooste for lunch to present her with a certificate and carnation designating her as an emeritus member of Altrusa.

Kiwanis

Connersville High School athletic director Brent Duncan spoke current projects during the Connersville Kiwanis Club meeting on Wednesday.

The new fieldhouse, now called a student activity center, should greatly enhance availability of athletic facilities for the Spartans, he said. High school teams will be able to practice and play there, freeing up space at the middle school and some elementary schools. It will have three basketball courts, one with a wooden floor and the other two with tile flooring that can be used for practice and games in other sports as well. The building is a little behind schedule but should still be complete within the first few months of the coming year. He is working on a proposal to create a CHS Athletic Hall of Fame. CHS will host a basketball sectional this year.

The club will have a board meeting at noon Wednesday at the Pizza Place.
