Spartan baseball mini-camps to be held

Several Connersville Spartan baseball mini-camps will be held during the month of September.

The camps are for youths between the ages of 7-12. 

The camps will be held on the following dates:

n Group 1 (ages 7-9): Fielding camp — Sept. 17th and 19th from 5 p.m. to 6:15 p.m.

n Group 2 (ages 10-12): Hitting camp — Sept. 10th and 12th from 5 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. Fielding camp — Sept. 24th and 26th from 5 p.m. to 6:15 p.m.

All camps will held at the Connersville High School baseball field. 

There is a cost of $15 to attend one of the two camps, or $25 to attend both (make checks payable to Michael Thompson). Please bring your own equipment to the camps (bat, glove, helmet). Each player in attendance will receive a T-shirt.

Parks Department announces sign-up dates

The Connersville Parks and Recreation Department has released a schedule of sign-up deadlines and fees for its sports programs.

• Girls basketball: grades 1-6, $25 per child, deadline Sept. 27.

• Boys basketball; grades 1-6, $25 per child, deadline Dec. 6.

People can register for any of the programs at the John H. Miller Community Center in Roberts Park, 2900 Park Road. The Parks Department office is open 8 a.m.-11:30 a.m. and 12:30-4 p.m. For information, call 765-825-5244.

CHS football to play at Lucas Oil Stadium

As part of the Southeastern Showdown, the Connersville High School football team will play its Week 3 game against Greensburg inside Lucas Oil Stadium, home of the Indianapolis Colts, on Saturday, Sept. 7.

Four games involving seven of the eight teams in the Eastern Indiana Athletic Conference will be held on the day.

The Spartans will kick off the day, facing the Pirates at noon. That game will be followed by Franklin County vs. Rushville at 2:45 p.m., Batesville vs. South Dearborn at 5:30 p.m., and Lawrenceburg vs. Milan at 8 p.m.

East Central is the lone EIAC squad that will not play at the event.

All-Sport tickets will NOT be good at the event. Price per ticket to the Showdown is $12 and will be good for all four games. There will be discounted tickets for Connersville Youth Football League members. Tickets for the event are on sale at the CHS athletic office.

Tickets will also be available for purchase at Friday’s home game. Connersville and Franklin County fans may buy tickets at the game.
