2 motorcycle accidents, one dead and one critically injured

News-Examiner

One man died and another was seriously injured in separate motorcyle accidents in recent days.

Adam F. Conn, 27, of the 1800 block of Vermont Ave., died in a crash Friday evening at 30th Street and Iowa Avenue. He had been operating a Honda CX5 motorcycle without a helmet, according to Connersville Police Officer Josh Durstine’s report, who was called to the scene at 5:47 p.m.

His motorcycle was involved in a head-on crash with a Dodge Ram truck driven by Judith L. Roberts of the 100 block of Huston Street.

An Indiana State Police crash investigator is completing an investigation.

Last Wednesday afternoon, a northbound motorcyclist tried to pass vehicles on the right who had been waiting to turn left onto West County Road 300-N, Harrisburg Road.

Captain Chris Scott said the motorcyclist, identified as David K. Hayes, 55, Muncie, hit two potholes along the side of the highway. A witness said after Hayes’ motorcycle went into the air, ejecting him from the motorcycle. Hayes’ head hit the ground.

Hayes did not wear a helmet.

Fayette County Emergency Medical Services and Connersville Fire Department provided life-saving measures and the EMS transported Hayes to the Connersville Airport. A medical helicopter transported him to St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis for treatment.

CPD reported a weekend condition report listed Hayes in critical but stable condition.
