Hundreds of young people, parents and others came to Roberts Park Thursday for the annual Community Youth Day organized by the Fayette County Public Library. Inside the John H. Miller Community Center and outside on the lawn, they stayed busy looking and climbing on trucks, picking out school backpacks, exercising, seeing themselves flying on a video screen, and haivng a generally good time. Assistant Librarian Melissa Scott said attendance appeared to be on track to be larger than last year, when more than 1,000 people participated. Without community support, the event wouldn’t be so successful, she said. Pictured, Felix Steele, 9, right, takes a turn in the turret atop a Humvee from the Indiana Army National Guard armory. Helping explainits operation is Spec. Edward Kaikumba of Muncie.
