A small rock band from Connersville has taken a step back to focus on producing new music and is looking forward to releasing a new music videos.

The band, Closer to Clarity, performed in the semi-final round in the Cincinnati Band Challenge at the Blue Note in Harrison, Ohio, in March. Since then, the band has taken a step back to focus.

Closer to Clarity made it to the third round in the challenge before being eliminated. The band took this as an opportunity to grow as a band.

“The challenge was fun, we met some great bands. We are always working to be better musicians,” band member TJ Steele said. “The band challenge provided us a bit of a gauge to use to see where our music is at.”

The band is planning to release new music along with new music videos by the end of the year or sometime in early next year.

Josh Brown and TJ Steele formed the band in 2016.

“The initial group didn’t last too long and we lost some members,” Steele said. “Simon (Moriarty) joined in later in 2016, and we actually had another member, (but) we’ve since become a three piece.”

All the members have grown up in Connersville and started the band due to their interest in music since a young age.

Steele has been playing the drums since he was 13. Brown, who provides the guitar and vocals, learned to play the guitar at the age of 13. Moriarty, who plays bass and helps with vocals, has been playing the bass since 2006.

The band has been influenced by rock bands such as Chevelle, Deftones, Seether, Thrics and Incubus.
