Armed robbery suspect arrested

By LEANA CHOATE - lchoate@newsexaminer.com

Video surveillance of an apparent armed robbery at Village Pantry led police to arrest a 21-year-old Connersville man Monday.

An armed robbery occurred around 2 a.m. Sunday at the Village Pantry at 513 W. 3rd St. A man allegedly entered the store and asked the clerk for a pack of cigarettes. The suspect pulled a handgun from his sweatshirt and demanded money from the cash register, according to information from the Connersville Police Department.

The clerk described the suspect as a white male with dark hair.

Police obtained surveillance footage from store security cameras. They determined the vehicle in which the suspect fled was owned by a Richmond resident. CPD contacted Richmond Police Department, which found the empty vehicle Sunday.

On Monday morning Connersville detectives and Richmond police continued the investigation, focusing on the impounded vehicle. Based on the security footage, they began looking for Kevin Roseberry of Connersville.

Detectives obtained a search warrant for a house where Roseberry was believed to be hiding. CPD activated its Critical Response Team and searched the house, with help from Fayette County Sheriff’s Department and CPD officers.

Although Roseberry was not found there, evidence led police to a second place where Roseberry was believed to be hiding. There, police reported seeing Roseberry trying to leave through a bedroom window.

Police took Roseberry into custody and transported him to Fayette County Jail, where they charged him with robbery, a level 3 felony.

On Tuesday, Roseberry, who lives on West 8th Street, was being held in jail without bond, awaiting an initial court hearing.
