DAR makes awards at meeting with Historic Connersville

Historic Connersville, Inc. and the John Conner Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, held a joint meeting Wednesday at the Fayette County Historical Museum.

HCI President Brad Colter opened the meeting and attendees recited the Pledge of Allegiance. HCI business was presented by Colter. Discussion was held on various items and upcoming events.

Colter closed the business meeting and introduced John Conner Chapter Vice Regent Kay Pike. She thanked HCI for the opportunity share the evening.

She introduced Nancy McCombs, John Conner Chapter DAR Good Citizen Chapter Chair. McCombs told about the DAR Good Citizen Scholarship Program. She introduced the 2019 chapter winner, Elliot Tuttle, is a senior at Connersville High School. He read his essay written for the contest. He received a certificate and monetary award from the chapter.

Pike then introduced Honorary State Regent Jeanie Hornung. She told about the Community Service Award program with the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution. The award is given for recognition of worthy people from a variety of walks of life for outstanding achievements in education, humanitarian, patriotic, historical, citizenship or environmental conservation endeavors. The recipient is expected to have contributed to his or her community in an outstanding voluntary heroic, civic or benevolent manner. Recommendations for the Community Service Award show documentation detailing the service, news articles, and/or internet documentation.

The John Conner chapter awarded Donna Cullen Schroeder the NSDAR Community Service Award for her many years of work in Fayette County as president of Historic Connersville Inc., and being instrumental in the move of the Fayette County Historical Museum to a larger building with room for expansion, also serving as County Historian, president of the Fayette County Tourism Board, and her work with the Fayette County Cemetery Commission. Schroeder received a certificate and pin in recognition of her service.
