By LEANA CHOATE - lchoate@newsexaminer.com

The Salvation Army is accepting applications for Summer 2019 Youth Camps at Hidden Falls Camps and Conference Center.

The summer camp program is a ministry of The Salvation Army that combines physical activity with emotional care and spiritual growth, according to the Hidden Falls website, hiddenfallscamp.org. The camp is located at Bedford.

This year’s camp theme is Summer of Stories. Each camp will have a story theme and activities involving children’s books and stories, Tara Madden, a member of the Fayette County Salvation Army council, said.

Different camps are available during June and July.

n Kids Camp, Monday, June 10, to Friday, June 14, for children 7-12. Campers will be fishing, playing games, hiking and participating in outdoor education.

n Sports Camp, Monday, June 17, to Friday, June 21, for children 9-13. Campers will choose a sport to participate in. Campers can choose between football, basketball, softball, cheer, martial arts and archery.

n Outdoor Experience Camp, Sunday, June 30, to Wednesday, July 3, for children ages 12-17. This camp is for children who are new to camping. Campers will be sleeping in tents and learning basic outdoor skills and safety.

n Teen Camp, Monday, July 15, to Friday, July 19, for campers 13-17. Children will choose activities such as sports, hiking, fishing and arts and crafts.

n STEAM camp, Monday, July 22, to Friday, July 26, for children entering grades 6-1. Campers will choose a focus from science, technology, engineering, art or mathematics and learn from activities based on their interests.

“I think going to any summer camp is great experience for a kid and these camps are very economical and event packed,” Madden said.

The cost per camper is $25, and parents can register their children at the Salvation Army, 431 West Western Ave. Registration is open until the camps are full. More information can be found in packets at the Salvation Army. Campers must provide their own transportation to and from camp.
