Prayer vigil for hospital set

By DARRELL SMITH - dsmith@newsexaminer.com

With the court-ordered sale of the Fayette Regional Health System approaching, the Fayette County Ministerial Association will be asking for divine intervention for the hospital and its employees.

A prayer vigil is set for 6 p.m. Thursday at the hospital entrance, 1941 Virginia Ave.

Hospital Chaplain Shawn Tipton said some employees asked him if something could be put together by local churches. He had contacted all the pastors a couple weeks ago to have prayer during worship that God’s will would be done in the auction. He has also sent emails to pastors about the prayer vigil.

“I know a lot of the employees are feeling the stress with everything going on,” he said.

The hospital is in Chapter 11 reorganization under federal bankruptcy code. The bankruptcy court has ordered the hospital sold at auction. All of the hospital’s physical assets – buildings and equipment – will be included in the sale.

Qualified buyers have until April 30 to submit written bids. Attorneys will review the bids. Qualified buyers will have a chance to raise bids on May 2. The hospital will have new owners by May 9 if the court approves the sale.

“It would be great to have enough to surround the hospital and simply pray for the organization and those involved,” he wrote in email to pastors. “This week has continued to be a trying week at FRHS but I know God is still in control.”
