Middle school choirs capture gold at contest

The Connersville Middle School Mixed Choir is one of three choral groups that won gold ratings at an organizational contest Saturday.

Ninety choir members from Connersville Middle School competed Saturday at the Indiana State School Music Association’s Organizational Contest for elementary, junior high, and middle school at Greenfield-Central Junior High School. All three choirs took gold ratings.

The Guys Choir competed at the Group II level, performing “The Gallant Knight,” “I’m Bound Away” and “Good News!”

Competing in Group I, the most difficult, the Treble Choir performed “Glorificamus Te,” “Early One Morning” and “Joshua Fit the Battle of Jericho.”

Also in Group i, the Mixed Choir performed “Sing Out a Joyful Song,” “Sometimes I Think and Wonder” and “Let Me Ride.”

All three choirs earned the gold rating from all three judges, receiving excellent comments and scores.

CMS choir director Jennifer Clifford conducted the choirs. Sue Conway was the piano accompanist.

The CMS combined choirs will perform at Connersville Middle School on Wednesday, May 8, and at the Music in the Parks Festival at Kings Island on Saturday, May 11.
