Cambridge City approves contractorfor paving project

By DARRELL SMITH - dsmith@newsexaminer.com

CAMBRIDGE CITY —The Cambridge City Town Council approved a contractor for the Community Crossing grant construction Monday.

Milestone Contractors presented the low bid of four companies that bid on the project, $258,800, according to Doug Young, town manager.

The Indiana Department of Transportation Community Crossing grant will provide a little more than $202,000 with the town paying the rest.

The project includes milling and paving North Foote Street from U.S. 40 to Creitz Park and sidewalks on both sides of the street. The street is busy during the summer and during Winter Wonderland in November and December and many people walk to the park.

Young will meet with Milestone to plan the construction timetable.

He said planning for the 2020 Community Crossing grant has begun. The Wayne County Highway Department plans on replacing the small bridge north of U.S. 40 on Green Street next year.

“We are going to try to get a joint Community Crossing grant,” he said. “The paving will be from Main Street (U.S. 40) to the fire station. I’m looking for sidewalks on both sides all the way to the fire station.”
