Sen. Leising not coming to meeting

One of the lawmakers scheduled to attend the regional Legislative Breakfast Saturday has notified the organizer that she will not be there.

Fayette County School Corp. board president Leslie Jacobs said state Sen. Jean Leising has notified her that she will not attend. State Rep. Cindy Ziemke and state Sen. Jeff Raatz still plan to be there, she said.

The meeting will be at 9 a.m. in the Whitewater Career Center, 1300 Spartan Drive. It is open to the public.

No added candidates

The first three candidates on the 2019 Primary Election ballot are the only ones who had registered before noon Thursday.

Filing for the election started Wednesday morning at the Fayette County clerk’s office. Within the first hour, Harold Gordon, a Democrat, and Chad Frank, Republican, had both filed for mayor, and David Nutty, a Republican, filed for reelection as a City Council member.

Candidates from the Republican and Democratic parties have until Feb. 8 to file papers to appear on the May 7 Primary Election. City offices are the only ones on this year’s ballot.
