Tyler Patterson is Connersville Middle School’s seventh-grade Spartan of the Week for the week of Jan. 7. Tyler is the grandson of Jack and Pam Patterson.

Tyler was nominated by Lindsey Brooks, Diamonds science teacher, for being a fantastic Polar Express volunteer who “helps spread his infectious positive attitude to all of the passengers to ensure they have a great time on the train.” Chris Greeson, art teacher, added, “Tyler shows great detail in art class. He listens and applies principles to his designs in a creative way.” Clay Hurd, Race Cars social studies teacher, stated, “Tyler is always kind to his teachers and fellow students. He routinely exemplifies what a model student should look like and is an asset to the Race Car team.”

At CMS, Tyler plans to try out for golf in the spring. He is on the honor roll and received a best mental attitude award for the first nine weeks from the Race Cars team in English class.

Outside of school, Tyler participates in 4-H and is a member of Garrison Creek Baptist Church. In his spare time, he enjoys reading and volunteering for the Whitewater Valley Railroad.

Tyler’s favorite classes are English and social studies. After high school, he plans to attend Ball State and become a physician assistant.

When asked what he liked best about being a student at CMS, Tyler said, “I like that the teachers are always willing to help you no matter how hard the situation may be!”

Maggie Hancock is CMS’s eighth-grade Spartan of the Week for the week of Jan. 7. Maggie is the daughter of John and Constance Hancock.

Maggie was nominated by Lindsey Brooks, Diamonds science teacher, for being respectful, responsible and ready to learn. Brooks stated, “Maggie always comes to school with a positive attitude and sets a great example for her class. She is a great self-advocate when it comes to asking questions and understanding directions.”

At CMS, Maggie is a member of the Art Club, swimming team, Writers Club and choir. Maggie is on the honor roll.

Outside of school, she volunteers for the Polar Express. In her spare time, she enjoys volunteering, painting, singing, listening to music and playing video games.

Maggie’s favorite classes are science and math.

After high school, she plans to become a graphic designer or an interpreter.

When asked what she liked best about being a student at CMS, Maggie said, “I like all the choices in clubs and after school activities. I also enjoy being able to have different teachers to interact and communicate with.” Her advice to 7th-graders is, “turn in your work, do your homework, and don’t be late to class.”
