Property tax deadline nearing

Property tax payers have been flocking into the Fayette County treasurer’s office this week to beat the fall payment deadline.

Tax payments are due by 4 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13, said Lavonda Glover, county treasurer. The office will be closed on Monday in observance of the Veterans Day holiday.

The fall installment of taxes can be paid by mail as long as it is postmarked on or before Nov. 13. Otherwise, payment can be brought to the treasurer’s office on the east side of the Fayette County Courthouse at 401 Central Ave. It’s open 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m.; closed on weekends.

A drop box is located in the hallway next to the office for those who don’t want to wait in line. Only checks or money orders may be left with the fall tax statement in the dropbox, Glover said.

Firearms season for deer almost here

The firearms season for deer hunters starts Saturday, Nov. 17, and continues until Sunday, Dec. 2. A muzzleloader season is Dec. 8-23 and a special antlerless season will be open in some locations Dec. 26-Jan. 6, 2019.

A full list of season dates, bag limits, and legal equipment can be found on the deer-hunting question and answers web page, www.in.gov/dnr/fishwild/7389.htm.

A valid Indiana deer hunting license, resident youth hunt/trap, or comprehensive lifetime hunting license is required to hunt for deer except for people who meet a license exemption. All deer harvested in Indiana must be reported within 48 hours of the time of harvest at an on-site check station, online, through an Indiana Fish & Wildlife account or by phone at 1-800-419-1326.
