Health fair set at courthouse

A helicopter will be landing at the Fayette County Courthouse Friday morning but, no worries, it’s not an emergency.

The Fayette County Health Fair will be taking place on the parking lot north of the courthouse from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. As part of the attraction, a visit by an emergency evacuation helicopter has been arranged by Adrian Ellis, the county’s Emergency Management Agency director, according to Stephanie Glover. The chopper is scheduled to land at about 9:45 a.m.

The event will include screenings for some health conditions, including blood pressure, glaucoma and body fat, said Glover, Fayette County deputy auditor. As the county’s human resources director, she made arrangements for the health fair.

Among vendors who will perform screenings and provide information are Fayette Regional Health System, Whitewater Valley Rehab and Yaryan Eye Care Center. The county’s veterans service officer will provide information about health benefits available to past service members.

There will be drawings for door prizes and giveaways.

It’s the second year the county has organized a health fair, Glover said. It started as a way to encourage healthy habits among county employees and expanded to include anyone who wanted to attend. Glover said the 2017 event had a good turnout and, “We’re hoping for more people this year.”

The public may attend at no cost.
