Tours offered at Newkirk Mansion

Tours of the William Newkirk Mansion, 321 W. Western Ave., will be offered from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, and 1-6 p.m. Sunday, Aug 19. 

One-half of the $10 tour fee will go to the Whitewater Valley Arts Association. Remaining funds will be used for the continuing restoration of the mansion by Mike and Jenny Sparks. Children 10 and under are free when accompanied by an adult.

WVAA members will be providing information about the mansion throughout the tour. Various artworks from the WVAA and items from their upcoming fall benefit auction will be on display in the mansion.

Free parking will be available on the front lawn. Transportation up and down the hill will be available.

Community center seeks raffle items

The Columbia Township Community Center is busy planning its annual chicken dinner fundraiser to help with restoration of the Community Center.

Organizers are accepting monetary donations and other gift items for raffle sales. A handgun and a rifle are among items that will be awarded in the raffle.

The chicken dinner is planned from 3-7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 8, at the Community Center, and will include live music from local musicians. For information contact Terena Murray, president, at 765-309-4687.
