Officer apologizes for wrong turn

Officer apologizes for wrong turn

To the people of Fayette County, the city of Connersville and the families of Spencer Rose, your fallen hero, I extend my heartfelt sympathy for the passing of one who chose to serve our United States.

I extend my apology to all of you and ask forgiveness for the mistake I made on Thursday evening, Aug. 2, by making a wrong turn while being one of the lead police cars of the procession. Because of a misunderstanding on my part, I made a wrong turn which led to you not being able to pay your respect to him after waiting for a long time for the procession to pass. There are no words I can convey to express how terrible I feel.

It isn’t something I take lightly. It breaks my heart for what I took from you and can’t replace or do over. The New Castle officer in the lead car was in no way responsible: He was going on information from me.

I assume all responsibility. I don’t know what else I can do, but I felt this letter was something I needed to do to try to convey my feelings to your community.

My hope is that it in no way reflects on any police agency and rests solely on me.

Again, I ask forgiveness. May God give you comfort in this time of sorrow that you are feeling.

– Deputy Bob Hightower, Henry County Sheriff’s Department.
