United Methodist Women

United Methodist Women met July 19 in the lounge of First United Methodist Church. President Jeanna Hushour opened the meeting with the Prayer Calendar focus, which highlighted mission volunteers and ways to help them finance their mission service.

The group was told that a donation had been made to United Methodist Women to start a program called Hope Center. It will focus on helping victims of childhood sexual exploitation and sex trafficking receive therapy and learn skills to enable them to earn a living and restart their lives.

Devotions and the program were given by Ann Frost. She provided some “facts” about ways to simplify our lives and make our days easier. She read selections from a book written by Judy Kaiser’s mother which made us reflect on our pasts.

Refreshments were served by the unit officers. The next meeting will be Aug. 16.

Eta Pi Kappa

Eta Pi Kappa Sorority met at El Caballo Blanco restaurant on July 23 for the anniversary party. Hostesses were Dena House, Faye King, Kim Bever, Tammy Tressler, Julie Harrison, Lynn Barnard and Linda Henderson. Names were drawn for door prizes.

The garage and bake sale will be Aug. 11 at the home of Sheri McKinney. Members are to bring two baked items or be assessed $20.

A business meeting will be Aug. 13. Homemade articles will be brought by Dee Wagner and Judy Getz.
