Abetted by sunny weather, small bands of roving shoppers made their rounds Saturday morning, moving from yard to yard, on the hunt for something to buy.

Or maybe many things to buy.

“We’re going around, looking,” said Angela Gettinger as she and her daughter, Pacey Gettinger, browsed a table of clothing in the 700 block of Ranch Road. She admitted to being a veteran of rummage sales.

But it was the first time for a friend who came with the Gettingers.

“It’s fun,” said Hannah Hedgespeth, Gettinger’s first-time shopping friend, “to see what everyone has, and we might find some really good deals.”

They were among shoppers in the Community-Wide Yard Sales Friday and Saturday. Dozens of local yards and garages had stuff set out for the curious and the buyers.

Baskets filled a table at Connie Durham’s house on Timber Creek Drive. She used to seriously collect them but they became too numerous. She set out some she can live without, along with knick-knacks like a picture frame decorated like a baseball that she encouraged a young girl to buy.

Brianne Russell came with her mother, Georgia Russell, and her baby, 3-month-old Rayden Crowe, to look for clothes for the little ones in the family.

Crystal Muterspaugh decided the community-wide sale presented a good opportunity to get rid of things she no longer needed: some clothing, shoes, video games, DVDs, and miscellaneous.

“I knew it was the community sale this week and I already had some stuff priced from last fall,” she said.

First organized four years ago by local artist Brenda Pruet Kunkel, some of the sales continue today. Sales were listed in Friday’s Connersville News-Examiner and on a Facebook page for Connersville IN Community-Wide Garage Sale Days-June 8-10.
