The 57 pieces of art entered for the fifth annual Whitewater Valley Arts Association Regional Art Exhibition have been judged and now the artists wait for the results.

The announcement will be made Friday during a reception from 6-8 p.m. at the Arts Association gallery, 402 Central Ave.

There are far more advanced entries this year than in the past, said Hector Perez, association member. Entry was open to professional and amateur artists from Fayette. Rush, Henry, Wayne, Franklin and Union counties and from Association members wherever they may live.

Paintings range from oil to acrylic to watercolor with pencil drawings, pottery, fiber art and three-dimensional works all on display.

“Several of the artists in the advanced category are very well exhibited in this area,” he said.

Lawrence Sexton served as the judge for the contest. He is a well known fine artist who helps run the Room 912 Gallery in Richmond, a joint effort of the Richmond Art Museum and Indiana University East, he said.

The show impressed him, as well as individual pieces, Perez said. The judge thought the artists who entered in the amateur category really stepped it up this year.

Awards will be given for Best of Show and first, second and third place in each category.

The show will be displayed through the second week in June when “Planes, Trains and Automobiles” will take over, showing modes of transportation.
