Charles W. Allen Sr.


Charles W. Allen Sr., 68, of Connersville, passed away on Monday, April 9, 2018 at Reid Health in Richmond. He was born August 4, 1949 in Laurel, Indiana, to the late Fred A. Allen and Dorothy Elizabeth Gaddis Allen.

Charles graduated from Connersville Senior High School with the Class of 1967. On July 1, 1967, he married Deborah Chasteen in Connersville, Indiana.

For thirty five years, Charles was a Son of the American Legion, where he served as a detachment Commander. He also was a member of Warren Lodge #15 F & AM for eighteen years.

He worked for Design and Manufacturing for twenty-eight years until they closed, later at White Consolidated, Visteon, and Walmart as an Auto and Sporting Goods department manager.

Charles was known as Skeeter the Clown for twenty years, he was a Connersville Spartan Chicken. He took care of the Connersville Skate Park for ten years.

Along with his wife Deborah, he is survived by three sons, Charles (Gloria) Allen Jr., of Union, Ohio, Kellis (Missy) Allen, of Connersville, and Tim (Missi) Allen, of Palm Bay, Florida; one brother, Fred (Katha) Allen, of Connersville; one sister, Nancy Lengle, of Connersville; fifteen grandchildren, Shanta Bowman, Kellis Allen Jr., Brandon Allen, Kasey Allen, Zachary Allen, Tisha Jarboe, Charles Bailey III, Justin Bailey, Jake Bailey, Jessica Bailey, Kaylie Dallas, Krysta Allen, Brittany Flynn, Charles Allen III, and Colin Allen; twenty-seven great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and multitude of friends.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, John Allen and Herschel Allen; two sisters, Ruth Nickel and Nancy King; two great grandchildren, Zayden Allen and Ann Marie Flynn; and his mother and father in law, Opal Whitehead and Ernest Chasteen.

The funeral service for Charles will be held on Saturday, April 14, 2018 at 11:00 am at Urban Winkler Funeral home, Connersville, with Dennis Perkins officiating. Burial will follow at Lick Creek Cemetery. Friends and Family may visit the funeral home on Friday, April 13, 2018 from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm with Masonic Memorial Service at 7:30 pm.
