Forty-seven Connersville Middle School choir members participated in 36 events in the Indiana State School Music Association’s piano and vocal, district solo and ensemble contest.

These seventh and eighth graders competed along with students in grades five through 12, performing musical selections that ranged from easy music (group IV) to medium difficult music (group II). Altogether, three piano solos, 28 vocal solos, a barbershop quartet and four ensembles all received gold medals for their efforts on Feb. 3.

Dafler, Glover, Sydney Grounds, Miranda Herbert, Jackson, Judd, Keaffaber, Lynn, McKinney, Lauren McMillan, Mullins, Jordan Pyle, Grace Robinson, Smith, Stanbrough and Tuttle.

Two mixed ensembles performed “Danny Boy” and a medley of spirituals entitled “Swingin’ with the Saints.”

Most of the preparation for this competition took place on the students’ own time during lunch and after school. The students were coached by piano and voice teacher Sue Conway and CMS Choir Director Teresa Lewis. Current and former CHS Choir members also helped the students prepare.

The CMS Guys, Treble and Mixed Choirs will be competing in the ISSMA organizational contest at Greenfield-Central Junior High School this Saturday. The Combined Choirs will compete at the Music in the Parks Festival at Kings Island on May 12.
